Citizenship & Social Responsibility

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off

This year, the students will be evaluating themselves on the criteria for Citizenship and Social Responsibility.

Together with the students, we created a rubric for performance of the criteria for CSR. Students shared examples with different classes and groups, and we compiled their thoughts and examples into one final rubric. Students will be keeping a journal, reflecting on where they are on our “scale” from Awesome to Awful, citing examples as proof of their performance. They will then do a self-assessment for each term that will be included in their report cards.

Please read our rubric, and feel free to discuss it with your student!

Welcome to our Community News, designed for citizens of LC9 and their families.  We are looking forward to what we know will be another exciting year of learning!

As a teaching team, we believe that there are three parties who share the primary responsibility for a child’s learning and development – the parents/guardians, the teachers, and the student.  As students enter into grade nine, the expectations we will have of our students will increase.  We will support our students as they develop skills and habits necessary to become responsible citizens of our school and community, we also expect that students will take more responsibility for their own learning.  You, as a parent, can help support your child’s development in this area by checking in with them each day, to find out about homework, upcoming events, etc.

Communication is Key to the foundation of our Learning Community!!!  Please note the following key elements to our Community News blog:

  • SUBJECT AREAS:  At the top of the homepage, you will notice that there are separate tabs for each core subject area.  Under each of these tabs will be updated information, handouts, assignments, etc., of what your child will be learning each day.   It is also important that students check this area of the blog consistently for updates, especially if they are going to be away or are at home ill.

  • BLOG ROLL:  Located on the right hand side of this page are links to some important and interesting web sites.  Sites listed include information about the curriculum, Parkland School Division, GCMS, as well as interactive learning sites for our students.  If you know of any sites that would be beneficial to our students, please let us know!!!!

  • MAIN PAGE:  What you are currently viewing  is the main page of the blog.  This is where you will find information about upcoming school events, copies of letters and permission forms that your child “should” be bringing home, and any other relevant information throughout the school year.  Most importantly, please pay special attention to the “DAILY HOMEWORK” located at the top of this main page as it will be updated daily with homework assignments and upcoming due dates.
